Astrachan and Salam

Astrachan is now officially retired, although I do ride him every now and again.  But, we have a new stallion that will be standing here at Cascade Gold.  Salam has come from Freedom Run Farms in Michigan, after being imported from Russia in 2006 .  Salam is an elite graded stallion, 16.1 hands tall, black, Fakir Pelvan line.  He has been lightly used for breeding so far, as he was in dressage training and was about to compete at third level, when a pasture accident interrupted his career.  He is now breeding sound and is being graciously leased to us by Freedom Run Farms.  He will be standing here for AI breeding.  He has two foals on the ground so far;  Suyji and Salamdor.  Suyji, who is out of our homebred mare, Alav, is a 2008 colt.  Suyji was sold as an event and stallion prospect and we hope for great things from him and his owner.  Salamdor is a 2010 colt out of MV Elfia and he looks like he will be tall and very sporty.

We  had a photoshoot in 2009 with our favorite photographer, Karen Wegenhenkel, so check out his photos on his page.

We’re expecting one Salam foal in 2011, out of our mare Anastasia.  I’m doing the filly dance!
