Sahra Giz |

Sahra is a coming 2 year old purebred buckskin filly, out of Amrita Ibold’s mare Shazada Giz, by Astrachan. Sahra is a sweet, laid back girl, with fabulous bone, gaits and type. I think she’ll mature around 15.2 or 15.3. Right now, she’s just growing up with her friend Kamileshen (Aliger x Anastasia) and next year (2009), I’ll probably breed her to someone…. August 2008—Sahra did something to herself on pasture early this spring, somehow she ruptured the tendon that goes across the front of her rear left pastern. This destabilized the joint, and surgery was warranted. Unfortunately, the surgery that was recommended costs about $8000. So, the surgeon suggested an experimental treatment that has been used successfully on hocks, but as far as he knows, never on a pastern joint. They injected alcohol into the joint, with the idea of fusing the long and short pastern bones together. We just had the 45 day radiographs done yesterday and it appears that the joint is fusing. So, there will probably be another 6 months of stall/small paddock rest but it appears that she will come out of this probably not rideable, but at least comfortable. Thank goodness she’s a filly! Well, a sad ending to Sahra’s story. After almost 6 months of stall rest, it was apparent that we could not ensure that Sahra would ever be even pasture sound and her pain was getting worse, so she was euthanized on December 8th. She went out with grain in her belly and lots of pain medication on board. She will be missed. |
